On September 13, 2024, an off-duty firefighter from Meridian Fire, who was playing pickleball in Boise, went into cardiac arrest. Another off-duty firefighter immediately began CPR and provided lifesaving measures. Boise Police, Ada County Paramedics Medic 13, and Boise Fire Engine 7 later arrived at the scene and continued care. The patient was transported to a local hospital, where he was eventually discharged and has since made a full recovery.

Bert Torkelson, Clayton Strasser, and Zach Lorenza received ACCESS Lifesaving awards in recognition of their efforts.
